The 1098-T Tuition Statement is an IRS tax form issued annually by eligible educational institutions. Students should receive their 1098-T document after January 31st. A 1098-T is only processed if a student is a US citizen or for students with a permanent address in the United States of America. If you are a non-resident living outside of the United States, you normally would not need a 1098-T. However, if you feel that one is required, please request one by filling out a Support Request.

If you live in the United States and have not received your 1098-T by February 10th, please review this article and follow the steps listed. If you live outside of the United States and have not received your 1098-T document (and are expecting to), by February 17th, you will want to follow the same instructions. All 1098-T documents will be sent through the mail. It will NOT be available in the Student Portal.

The 1098-T provides information about qualified tuition and related educational expenses that were paid during the tax year. Students and their parents may use the 1098-T form to determine eligibility for certain education tax credits, such as the American Opportunity Credit or the Lifetime Learning Credit.

There is no IRS requirement that you must claim education credits. Claiming education tax benefits is a voluntary decision for those who may qualify.

Most international students do not need Form 1098-T for any purpose.  However, please consult with your tax professional to confirm eligibility.
