Registration Error Messages & How to Fix Them

Your guide to troubleshooting course registration issues


This guide explains common registration error messages and the steps you can take to resolve them. If you still need help after following these instructions, submit a ticket in the Help Center and include:

  • Your full name
  • Course name and code (e.g., ENG101)
  • A screenshot of the error message
  • A brief description of what you’ve already tried (e.g., “updated address,” “selected gathering,” “checked Program Plan”)

Before You Try Again

Quick checks that solve many issues:

  • Prerequisites: You have completed and passed all prerequisite requirements for the course you want to add. Course prerequisite requirements are found in the Academic Catalog.
  • Gatherings: You have selected a religion gathering day/time, and if you’re in PathwayConnect, your academic gathering.
  • Holds: You have resolved any Holds and Alerts shown on your portal home page.
  • Address: Your physical address (including country) in My Profile → My Information is up to date.

Error-by-Error Help

“The system took too long to respond. Please try again in a few minutes. If the issue continues, submit a ticket to the Help Center.”

What it means: The system timed out while processing your request.
What you can do:
  • Wait a few minutes and try again.
  • If it keeps happening, submit a Help Center ticket and include the course code you’re trying to add.


“This course has another requirement you need to complete before you can register for this one.”

What it means: You must complete the prerequisite(s) first.
What a prerequisite is: A course or requirement that must be completed before enrolling in the course you are trying to register for.
What you can do:
  • In the catalog, open the course page to see prerequisites.
  • Complete and pass the prerequisite(s), then register for this course.
     

“This course has another requirement you must register for before you can register for this course.”

What it means: You must register for a corequisite course before you can register for this course.
What a corequisite is: A course or requirement that must be taken at the same time as the course you are trying to register for.
What you can do:
  • In your Program Plan, find the required corequisite course.
  • Add the corequisite first, then add this course (both should be in the same block).
Note the rules:
  • If you drop the corequisite, you must also drop this course.
  • You may drop this course and remain in the corequisite.
     

“You are already registered for this course.”

What it means: You are already enrolled.
What you can do:
  • Check your schedule to confirm the course is listed. No further action is needed.
     

“Something went wrong during registration. Please try again in a few minutes. If the issue continues, submit a ticket to the Help Center.”

What it means: A system error occurred.
What you can do:
  • Try again in a few minutes.
  • If it continues, submit a ticket and include the course name/code.
     

“There is a problem with the course information. Please try again in a few minutes. If the issue continues, submit a ticket to the Help Center.”

What it means: The course section details need to be corrected.
What you can do:
  • Try again shortly.
  • If it persists, submit a ticket with the course name/code.
     

“We are currently unable to determine your location. Please verify that your physical address (including country) is up to date in your portal. Then submit a ticket with the topic ‘Other.’ Add this description: ‘I have updated my address and need Support to refresh my location so I can register.’”

What it means: The system couldn’t verify your location based on your profile.
What you can do:
  • Go to My Profile → My Information and update your physical address, including country.
  • Submit a Help Center ticket using the topic “Other.”
  • In the description, paste: “I have updated my address and need Support to refresh my location so I can register.”
     

“Your country must be listed on your student profile in order to register for courses. Please update your physical address by going to ‘My Profile’ then ‘My Information.’”

What it means: Your country is missing from your profile.
What you can do:
  • Add your country in My Profile → My Information, then try again.
     

“Please choose a religion gathering time on the ‘Gatherings’ page. Then you will be able to register for a religion course.”

What it means: You haven’t selected a religion gathering.
What you can do:
  • Open the Gatherings page in your portal and select a religion gathering day/time; then register for your religion course. If you continue to experience an issue, submit a ticket with the course code and name.
     

“We couldn’t find a religion gathering for your location. Please choose a different time or location on the ‘Gatherings’ page. If you need help, submit a ticket with the topic ‘Class Schedule – Add a Course/Register.”

What it means: A religion class isn’t available for your selected location.
What you can do:
  • On Gatherings, try a different time or location.
  • If you still can’t find one, submit a ticket (topic: Class Schedule – Add a Course/Register) and include the course code.

Note: If you have already completed and passed REL275 or REL275C, it is equivalent to REL275A or REL275B. Retaking would be redundant. This note applies to all religion courses.
 

“There is an error with the religion gathering you selected. Please choose a different time or location on the ‘Gatherings’ page. If you need help, submit a ticket with the topic ‘Class Schedule – Add a Course/Register.’”

What it means: The religion class you selected has missing or incorrect details.
What you can do:
  • On Gatherings, choose a different time or location.
  • If you still need help, submit a ticket (topic: Class Schedule – Add a Course/Register) and include the course code.
Note: The REL275 / REL275C equivalency note above applies here, too.
 

“There are no available seats for this course in the upcoming block. Please review your Program Plan and register for a different course.”

What it means: All course sections are full for this block.
What you can do:
  • Open your Program Plan.
  • Choose the next suggested course and register for that one instead.
     

“The course you are trying to register for isn’t required for your degree. Find your specific catalog year and degree in the catalog. At the top of your degree page, click into your Program Plan to see what course(s) you should take next. If you think this is an error, submit a ticket to the Help Center.”

What it means: The course isn’t on your Program Plan for your catalog year.
What you can do:
  • Confirm your catalog year and degree in the catalog.
  • From your degree page, open your Program Plan to see what you should take next.
  • If you still believe you should take this course, submit a Help Center ticket.
     

“Registration is closed for the current block. View the academic calendar to see when registration will open for the next block.”

What it means: The registration window has closed.
What you can do:
  • Check the academic calendar in your portal for the next registration opening, then register when it opens.
     

“You have a hold on your account, which is preventing you from registering. Please go to the ‘Holds and Alerts’ icon on the portal homepage to learn how to resolve the hold.”

What it means: There’s a hold on your account.
What you can do:
  • On your portal home page, select Holds and Alerts.
  • Follow the instructions to resolve each hold, then try again.
     

“We couldn’t find a religion gathering for your location. Please choose a different time or location on the ‘Gatherings’ page. If you need help, submit a ticket with the topic ‘Class Schedule – Add a Course/Register.’”

What it means: A religion class couldn’t be found for your domestic, Filipino, international, or international location setting.
What you can do:
  • Try a different time or location on Gatherings, or submit a ticket (topic: Class Schedule – Add a Course/Register) with the course code.

Note: The REL275 / REL275C equivalency note applies.
 

“We couldn’t find a religion gathering at the selected time. Please choose a different time or location on the ‘Gatherings’ page. If you need help, submit a ticket with the topic ‘Class Schedule – Add a Course/Register.’”

What it means: No religion class is available at the specific time you chose.
What you can do:
  • Pick another time or location on Gatherings, or submit a ticket (topic: Class Schedule – Add a Course/Register) with the course code.

Note: The REL275 / REL275C equivalency note applies.
 

“You are not currently enrolled. You can apply to re-enroll or meet with an enrollment counselor.”

What it means: Your current status shows Program Withdrawal.
What you can do:
  • Apply to re-enroll or meet with an enrollment counselor for next steps.
